The city of Calgary is situated in the Canadian Province of Alberta on the convergence point of the Rivers Bow and Elbow. The city was originally founded in 1875, when Calgary was an outpost for the North-West Mounted Police. It continued to grow and prosper with ranching one of the activities early on. Later, it received a further boost with the boom of the oil business. Today, Calgary’s population exceeds 1 million people. Since 1912, the region has been famed for its yearly rodeo known as the “Calgary Stampede.” It is also home to the NHL (National Hockey League) teams, the Calgary Hitmen and the Calgary Flames.
