Champions League preview and odds: Bayern Munich vs Atletico Madrid

May 03, 2016 20:45pm - Allianz-Arena

Champions League - Semi-final, second leg (0-1)

It will be a clash of styles at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday when stylish Bayern Munich attempt to overhaul a one goal deficit to resolute Atletico Madrid in the second leg of this Champions League semi-final showdown.

Bayern a dominant force at home

Bayern Munich have lost just one of their last 23 home games in all competitions, having won 21 and drawn the other one. In that spell they have kept 17 clean sheets and conceded just 10 goals. With that kind of form on their side, they will fancy their chances against the tenacious Spanish side.

Their only draw at home this season came in their last match against Borussia Monchengladbach, although Pep Guardiola did rest some key players for that game.

The German giants have won their last 11 Champions League home matches in a row, scoring 41 goals in the process.

Atletico out to frustrate rivals

Atletico Madrid will arrive at the Allianz Arena with a one-goal lead and the knowledge that an away goal would leave their opponents needing to score three to progress. This is the kind of scenario that Diego Simeone and has men will thrive on.

The Spanish side are still fighting on two fronts, with the La Liga title still undecided, but Simeone still decided (successfully) to rest a few players at the weekend with this game in mind.

In their last match, they edged to a 1-0 win over relegation candidates Rayo Vallecano. That was their fourth 1-0 victory in a row in all competitions. Remarkably, they have only won two of their last eight away games in this tournament, having also drawn three and lost three.

Team news

Arjen Robben and Holger Badstuber are both still injured and will not feature for the home side.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without the injured trio of Yannick Carrasco, Tiago and Diego Godin.

Betting odds and tips

Bayern`s home record is impeccable but they are facing one of the most resilient teams in Europe who already have a one goal advantage. This game will be close and much will depend on how Guardiola`s men utilise the possession that they will no doubt be afforded. A home win can be expected over 90 minutes but extra time may be required to separate these teams.

You can back the Home Side to win over 90 minutes at 4/7 and the 1-0 score-line also looks good value at 5/1 - both with Bet365.
