Netherlands vs Luxembourg - World Cup Qualification Europe Preview and Odds

June 09, 2017 19:45pm - Stadion Feijenoord

World Cup Qualification - Group A

Holland will be looking to complete a Group A double over Luxembourg and keep themselves in the hunt for World Cup qualification when the two sides meet at Stadion Feijenoord on Friday night.

Following a poor run of results, Dutch boss Danny Blind was relieved of his duties back in March with former national team coach Dick Advocaat the man tasked with getting their campaign back on track.

The good news is that Netherlands` form at home in this competition is strong with the 1-0 defeat to France back in October their only World Cup qualifying defeat on home soil since 2000. However, their home record in all matches including friendlies makes shocking reading with just two wins in their last 10.

With two teams above them (Sweden and Bulgaria) in the race for second place in Groups A, the Oranje need to start performing or they could miss out on their second major tournament in a row after failing to qualify for Euro 2016.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg look all set to finish bottom of the Group, their only point so far picked up on their trip to Belarus back in October. With four defeats and a single draw from five matches, the prospects do not look good for Luc Holtz`s team on Friday night. When they hosted the Dutch side back in November, the visitors came out on top courtesy of a 3-1 win.

Betting odds and tips

Holland looked much brighter in their recent friendly clashes, winning 2-1 in Morocco before cruising to a 5-0 home win over Ivory Coast. Spurs striker Vincent Janssen struck in both those games and should get the chance to impress again on Friday. With little value elsewhere, the First Goal scorer market at least offers an opportunity.
