Wimbledon preview and odds: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Andy Murray

July 06, 2016 - Wimbledon, Quarter-finals

With Novak Djokovic already out of the equation, the door is well and truly open for Andy Murray to take advantage and grab his third Grand Slam title. But first, he will have to navigate his way past 12th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Murray in cruise control

Andy Murray already looks to be benefitting from the return of Ivan Lendl to his coaching team. The Scot has barely missed a beat on his way to the Wimbledon quarter-finals having yet to drop a set. Standing in his way of a semi-final place is Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Murray holds a 12-2 record against the 31-year-old and has never lost to him on grass. Add to that the fact that Murray is platying close to his best ever tennis, then the signs do not look good for Tsonga.

With the World No. 2 in such confident mood it is hard to see where his opponent can find an edge. The Brit has been sublime on the baseline and his ability to punish the second serve has been devastating. Tsonga`s best chance will be to land a high percentage of first serves and to land them well.

Tsonga has reached two Wimbledon semi-finals before but has only beaten Murray once in their last 12 meetings stretching back six years. That win came at the Canadian Open while Murray was still recovering from surgery and had only just resumed a full training schedule.

Betting predictions

Murray is in top form and is perhaps playing the best tennis of his career. It would take a monumental effort from Tsonga to topple the Scot at this stage.

You can back Murray to win 3-0 at 8/13 with Bet365.
