Liverpool vs Southampton - Premier League preview and odds

May 07, 2017 13:30pm - Anfield

Premier League

Liverpool will look to reclaim third place in the league when they welcome a Southampton side who are winless in three to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Reds with one foot in the Champions League

Liverpool`s top four destiny is still in their own hands but with three game still to play and Manchester United breathing down their necks, they can barely afford anymore slip-ups. The Reds can pull seven points clear of their closest rivals with a win on Sunday afternoon, although the Manchester side would still have two games in hand including the clash away to Arsenal later the same afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp`s men have struggled with injuries to key players for most of the season and Sunday will be no exception. The good news, however, is that Philippe Coutinho could recover from a dead leg in time for this match.

Meanwhile, Southampton will seek to break a three-game winless streak when they make the long trip north on Sunday. Claude PuelÂ’s men can climb back up to ninth in the table and move to within to a point of eighth-place West Brom with a win, a feat they achieved when they last paid a trip to Anfield in the League Cup back in January.

The South Coast side won three of their last five away matches with their two defeats coming against the current top two teams. They have yet to win away from home in the league against any team in the top seven.
