Serie A preview and odds: AS Roma vs. SS Lazio

November 08, 2015 14:00pm - Stadio Olimpico

Serie A

Both of the capital’s top-flight teams will have a chance to put recent defeats behind them on Sunday as third-ranked Roma prepare to face arch-rivals Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in the Derby della Capitale.

Roma looking to bounce back from Inter defeat

After five straight league victories, Roma finally slipped up when they went down by a single goal to Inter in Milan last week. As a result of that defeat, Rudi Garcia’s men slipped down to third place after previously topping the Serie A table.

It took a single first-half goal from Gary Medel goal to separate the sides in what was an even match overall. I Giallorossi`s chances of earning a point were scuppered by the 71st minute dismissal of midfielder Miralem Pjanić. The Bosnian was ejected from the pitch after receiving a second yellow and will miss the capital derby.

Lazio suffer double defeat

While Inter were disposing of Roma, the other team from Milan were comfortably beating the other team from Roma as AC Milan breezed to a 3-1 victory against Lazio in the Italian capital.

Goals from Andrea Bertolacci, Philippe Mexès, and Carlos Bacca diluted a single strike from Ricardo Kishna to condemn Stefano Pioli’s side to their second straight league defeat and their third loss in four games. As a result, the Roman side dropped to seventh in the table, five points shy of the Champions League qualifying spots.

Team news

Roma will be without veteran defender Maicon and midfielders Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro Florenzi who were all injured in the midweek Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen. They will join Francesco Totti and Seydou Keita on the sick list while Pjanić will be missing through suspension.

The away side are without Stefan De Vrij who has a knee problem but otherwise have a full squad to choose from.

Recent form (League)

Roma: LWWWW

Lazio: LLWLW

Betting odds and tips

Roma are favourites with the bookies and rightly so, however, a spate of injuries for the home side should even the contest a little more. As a result, the draw could come into play and is well-priced at 13/5 with Betfred.

Seven out of eight of Roma’s most recent games have resulted in both teams scoring and a goal tally of Over 2.5. Lazio have scored in the last three away games and three of their last four have produced Over 2.5 goals.

Both Team to Score can be backed at 8/13 with Bet365 and Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 8/11 with Betvictor.
