Premier League preview and odds: Crystal Palace vs Everton

January 21, 2016 15:00pm - Selhurst Park

Referee: Anthony Taylor

Premier League

Crystal Palace will look to break a seven-game winless run when they welcome seventh-ranked Everton to Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon. The visitors themselves are unbeaten in four and still have an outside chance of grabbing a European place.

Sam Allardyce still looking for first league win in charge of Palace

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 15 Premier League matches and are winless in their last seven. As a result, they are now just one point above bottom-of-the-table Swansea City.

Since new boss Sam Allardyce arrived, the Eagles have yet to pick up a point, having lost 1-2 at home to Swansea City and 3-0 away to West Ham United. However, they did manage to win their midweek FA Cup clash against Bolton Wanderers.

The Londoners have conceded at least one goal in 11 of their last 12 home matches and have conceded the first goal in 76% of all their matches.

Meanwhile, opponents Everton are enjoying a resurgence in form that has seen them consolidate their position at seventh place in the table. The Toffees have won three of their last four matches, having drawn the other, and have managed to keep three clean sheets in that time.

Last time out, Ronald Koeman`s men cruised to an impressive 4-0 win over pre-season title favourites Manchester City. Prior to that, they defeated Koeman`s old club Southampton by a 3-0 score-line, also on home soil.

Away from home, the Merseysiders have not fared quite so well, having won just one of their last eight. However, they are unbeaten in their last two road trips, having won at Leicester (0-2) and drawn at Hull City (2-2).

Team news

The home side will be without the injured group of James McArthur (calf), Frazier Campbell (hamstring), Jordon Mutch (knock), Connor Wickham (knee), Sreve Mandanda (knee) and Jonathan Benteke (meniscus), while Wilfried Zaha and Bakary Sako are both away on international duty. To add to their woes, defender Scott Dann remains a doubt with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, the visitors are without Dominic Calvert-Lewin (knock), Yannick Bolasie (knee), Muhamed Besic (knee) and Matthew Pennington (thigh), while Idrissa Gueye is away on African Cup of Nations duty.

Recent form (League):

Crystal Palace: LLLDL

Everton: WWDWL

Betting odds and tips

The home side have been depleted by injuries and have lost perhaps their most influential player (Zaha) to the AFCON tournament in Gabon. In addition, their form has been terrible over the last three months and they have shown no sign of improvement since the arrival of Big Sam.

In stark contrast, Everton seem to have got their act together and will be relishing the chance to face a team that appears to be devoid of any confidence.
