La Liga preview and odds: Deportivo La Coruna vs. Celta de Vigo

November 21, 2015 21:05pm - Estadio Riazor

La Liga

After El Clasico has played out in Madrid, the second Spanish derby of the day will get underway in La Coruna as Deportivo and Celta Vigo clash in El Derbi Gallego.

Depor the draw specialists

While the fallout from the Madrid derby gets all the headlines, the people of Galicia will gather to watch the region’s most important game of the season. Deportivo will be the hosts as rivals Celta de Vigo make the short trip north for this intriguing clash. Depor are six points behind their rivals but can reduce that gap to three with a win on Saturday night.

If Victor Sanchez’s men are going to claim the win, they will need to break a habit which has seen them draw six games this season - the most of any team in the league. Three of those draws have come at home including their last two against Atletico Madrid (1-1) and Athletic Bilbao (2-2).

With two ex-players of the respective clubs at the helm, this year’s derby games should have an extra edge. Last season saw Celta prevail in both games.

Celta battling for top four status

Celta de Vigo had a great start to the season - remaining unbeaten in their first eight games - and for a while, they were the league’s pace-setters. However, after two defeats in their last three games, the Galician club may have lost a bit of swagger. They currently sit in fourth place in the table, just a point above Villarreal.

While the 1-3 defeat at home to Real Madrid could have been consumed quite easily, last week’s 1-5 thrashing at the hands of Valencia on home soil was much harder to swallow. They now have a chance to get back to winning ways by defeating their fiercest rivals on their own turf.

Team news

Deportivo will be without Costa Rican international Celso Borges who faces a spell out with a foot injury.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Cabral is suspended for Celta, while Nemanja Radoja needs surgery for a hernia problem and will be out for an unspecified timescale.

Betting odds and tips

Celta are unbeaten on the road and Depor have lost just once at home. The away side had their confidence dented last weekend but should be able to pick themselves up for this derby game. The draw looks like a good bet at 5/2 with Betfred.

Nolito was impressive for Spain last week and has netted 7 times for Os Célticos this season. You can back him to find the net anytime at 19/10 with Unibet.

With five dismissals in the last seven La Liga clashes between the Galician rivals, the 16/11 on offer from Marathon bet for a sending off in this game also looks good value.
