La Liga preview and odds: Sporting de Gijon vs. Levante

November 21, 2015 11:00pm - Estadio Municipal El Molinón

La Liga

One team trying to avoid the pull of the relegation zone will face another firmly submerged in its depths, when Sporting de Gijon welcome Levante to Estadio Municipal El Molinón in La Liga on Sunday morning.

Sporting de Gijon eyeing mid-table safety

Sporting’s mix of old heads and young hopefuls have managed to keep themselves out of the danger zone with 11 games played in La Liga. They now have a great chance to penetrate the mid-table places when league stragglers Levante roll up to their stadium in Asturias on Sunday Morning.

Los Rojiblancos were painfully unlucky to lose to Atletico in Madrid in the last game. A last-gasp header from Antoine Griezmann meant that Abelardo’s men left the capital empty-handed after battling hard for 90 minutes. That game followed their first home win of the season (1-0) against another struggling side, Malaga. That win came courtesy of a goal from Alen Halilovic, the young Croatian currently on loan from Barcelona.

Levante need a lift

Levante have already confirmed their status as a crisis club by sacking their Coach so early in the season. With Lucas Alcaraz gone and Rubi at the helm, the club managed to earn a point at home to Deportivo in the last game-week to break a three-game losing streak.

Away from home they have yet to record a win and have lost their last four in a row. Their only point on the road came on their trip to Las Palmas back in August.

Team news

Sporting will have to make do without Sergio Alvarez who dislocated his shoulder in Madrid and will be out for upt to three months.

Meanwhile, Levante will continue without Ivan Lopez and Angel Trujillo.

Betting odds and tips

In the last clash between these two, Sporting de Gijon snatched a 3-2 win. This game should also be quite tight but such a goal feast is unlikely - at least from the visitors. Levante have managed just one goal away from home all season and have conceded at least 3 in their last four trips.

Gijon managed to sneak past Malaga by a single goal in their last home game and could increase that score-line here. Gijon to win by 2 goals can be backed at 6/1 with Skybet or they can be backed to win to nil at 12/5 with Bet365.
