Liverpool vs Middlesbrough - Premier League preview and odds

May 21, 2017 15:00pm - Anfield

Premier League

Liverpool can wrap up Champions League qualification with a win over already-relegated Middlesbrough when the two side meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Reds in control of own destiny

Liverpool knew they had to beat West Ham United away from home last time out in order to keep their top-four destiny in their own hands and passed the test with flying colours, running out 4-0 winners. What`s more, Klopp`s men also kept a clean sheet for the third-straight game.

The Reds come into this game having lost just two of their last 26 league matches on home soil. However, they are winless in their last three having drawn against Bournemouth and Southampton, and lost against Crystal Palace. Their last home win was a 3-1 win love arch rivals Everton at the beginning of April.

With destiny in their own hands and a strong record on home soil, the Merseyside team will be confident of getting the job done against one of the league`s worst teams.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough already know that they will be playing second tier football next season and will be looking to end their short stay in the top flight in style. However, with just one win in their last 20 matches (against bottom club Sunderland), there is little reason for optimism for Steve Agnew’s men.

The northeast side have lost six of their last seven fixtures away from home and failed to score in seven of the last eight. With that kind of form, it could be a painful afternoon for the visitors.
