Windsor Castle Stakes - Royal Ascot 2017

June 20, 2016 17:35pm - Ascot, Berkshire

Royal Ascot 2017

Category: Listed, Class 1

Distance: 5f

Going: Good to firm

Runners: 23

Winner: £45,368.00

Hailing from the same yard that won this three years ago with Hootenanny (2014) and with a favoured jockey on board, Nookta Sound can stake a claim here. An easy debut over 4½f gave a little glimpse of potential but there should be plenty more to come from the blinkered two-year-old. Stablemate Elizabeth Darcy went well on firm ground on her debut and could also feature here.

There are a lot of runners whose form could be difficult to assess due to the lack of quality opposition in earlier runs, but when judging that form that can be more easily quantified, Declarationofpeace is one name that fits the bill.

A strong debut run at Navan to loosen up was followed up by a 5f win in Dundalk in which he showcased his abundant pace. As well as having the speed, he also has a favourable draw and could well be the one to beat in this race.

Meanwhile, Another Batt also fared well at Navan before bagging a second place in a quality young field at the Curragh. A switch of owner followed and the significant investment was rewarded with a win last time out at Ripon. He should have the pace to be there are thereabouts as they sprint for the line.

Betting odds and tips

An interesting race with plenty of possibilities for a big upset but Declarationofpeace seems to have the credentials necessary to get the job done. A price of 9/4 may seem a little short but punters should not be deterred from backing this talented horse.

You can back Declarationofpeace to win at a best price of 9/4.
