West Ham United vs Chelsea - Premier League Preview and Odds

September 23, 2018 13:30pm - London Stadium

Premier League

West Ham United will look to score points at home for the first time this season when they welcome title hopefuls Chelsea to the London Stadium.

The Hammers had a dismal start to the campaign, losing their first four matches, before bouncing back with a win at Everton last weekend. That victory lifted them off the bottom of the table and out of the drop zone. A win on Sunday would lift them further out of the drop zone, but they have shown little so far to suggest they can beat a side who are only one of two to boats a 100% record.

On a positive note, the Irons more than doubled their goal tally last time out, putting three past the Toffees. However, they have only scored once at home this term and have yet to pick up a point in Stratford.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need a win to maintain pace with leaders Liverpool who made it six wins from six on Saturday. The Blues have already scored 14 times this season while conceding just four and have won all five of their league games under new boss Maurizio Sarri. They arrive here on the back of a 1-0 win away to PAOK in the Champions League.

Their two away games so far came against teams in the bottom three and yielded six points. Thye put three past Huddersfield without reply and beat Newcastle 2-1 to end a seven-year winless run at St. James` Park.

Betting odds and tips

Chelsea have already beaten two of the bottom three away from home so will be clear favourites to win against the team in 17th place. However, West Ham showed improvement in the last game and will hope to carry some momentum into this game.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini made six changes for the win on Merseyside and may decide to stick with that formula for this game. Andriy Yarmolenko, Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, Declan Rice, Pablo Zabaleta and Arthur Masuaku all came in with Yarmelonko making the biggest impact of all.

If they can bring that form into this game, there is a chance they could snatch a point from their fellow Londoners.

You can back the Draw at 7/2.
