Champions League preview and odds: Manchester United vs. PSV Eindhoven

November 25, 2015 19:45pm - Old Trafford

Champions League

Manchester United can book a place in the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League with a win over Group B rivals PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

United can progress with victory

Manchester United are sitting on top of Group B and can qualify for the knockout stages of the competition with a win on Wednesday. However, they are currently just three points ahead of bottom-placed CSKA Moscow and defeat to the Dutch side could make life very difficult with just a trip to Wolfsburg to come.

In the first group game between the two sides in the Netherlands, the Eredvisie side ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Hector Moreno and Luciano Narsingh after United midfielder Memphis Depay had scored the opener against his old side.

The Premier League side come into this game on the back of a away win against Watford at the weekend and are currently enjoying an eight game unbeaten run at home in all European competition.

PSV looking for first away points

The visitors are joint-second in Group B but with just three point separating all four teams, the final qualification places will not be decided until the final game week. A win against United would put the Dutch side in a commanding position with a home game against CSKA Moscow still to play. However, they have failed to pick up a single point away from home in this year’s competition having lost in Moscow and Wolfsburg.

Team news

United`s extensive injury list includes absentees Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw, while Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney are all doubtful.

Meanwhile, Menno Koch and Jetro Willems are both unavailable for PSV while Maxime Lestienne remains a doubt.

Betting odds and tips

Manchester United have been hit hard by injuries but they have a big enough pool of expensive talent to cope with situations like these. They also look much less fragile than they did when the teams last met back in September. Considering their good European home form and PSV’s lack of away points, the 2/1 on offer from Betvictor for a Home Win looks like a good bet.

With Rooney and Martial doubtful, Depay could be in line for a start and is available at 15/8 to score anytime with Bet365.
