French Open preview and odds: Gilles Simon vs Victor Troicki

May 27, 2016 - Roland Garros, Third Round

Gilles Simon has never dropped a set to Victor Troicki in six previous meetings. Can the Frenchman maintain that record when the two go head-to-head in the third round of the French Open on Friday?

Simon aiming for seventh win over Troicki

Despite being close in the rankings table, Gilles Simon has always dominated Victor Troicki on the tennis court. The Frenchman has won all six of their previous meetings without dropping a set, with the last win coming in Monte Carlo just a month ago.

The World No. 18 came through a tough five-set battle against left-handed Argentinean Guido Pella to make it to the third round. He has reached the fourth round at Roland Garros in three of the last five editions but has yet to progress beyond that stage.

Victor Troicki got a helping hand in the last round when fellow Serbian Dusan Labovic retired injured after the third set. In the first round he twice came from a set down to knock out former World No. 8 Grigor Dimitrov. He must now face a player who has is a year older and just six places higher in the world rankings.

If the 30-year-old is successful, he will be playing in the fourth round of the French Open for the third time. However, he has yet to progress beyond that stage at any Grand Slam event.
