Everton vs Liverpool - Premier League Preview and Odds

March 03, 2019 16:15pm - Goodison Park

Premier League

A weekend of big European derbies continues as Merseyside`s finest go head to head on Sunday afternoon.

With 10 Premier League games left to play in the Premier League, Liverpool still have destiny in their own hands as they eye their first league title in 29 years. Out to scupper them will be an Everton side who haven`t won a Merseyside derby in nearly nine years.

With the top six firmly established, Everton are one of a handful of teams aiming to be the Premier League`s best-of-the-rest. The Toffees had a bright start to the season, but soon faded, the start of their demise coinciding with their defeat at Anfield at the beginning of December.

A run of four wins in 15 matches has left Marco Silva`s men with 36 points from 28 matches, only two points better off that they were last year. The lack of progress will be a worry for Everton fans who were hoping to challenge for European places this term.

Also worrying for the Goodison faithful is the lack of success in Merseyside derbies. Their last win came back in 2010 and Liverpool have won five of their last seven meetings in all competitions.

For the Reds, this weekend is all about maintaining their advantage at the top of the table. The fact they will need to beat Everton to achieve that should act as an added incentive for Jurgen Klopp`s men.

Last time out, they put in one of their best performances of the season to brush aside an in-form Watford side. Two goals apiece from Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk plus one from Divock Origi made up a 5-0 scoreline that did not flatter the Anfield club.

On their last six visits to the other side of Stanley Park, the Reds have drawn five out of six games, and they have generally been low scoring affairs.

Betting odds and tips

The last four meetings between these two at Goodison Park have all produced Under 2.5 Goals and a similar result can be expected here as the visitors look to keep another clean sheet while snatching a win that would keep them top of the table.

You can back Liverpool/Under 2.5 Goals at 14/5.
