Champions League preview and odds: Wolfsburg vs Gent (3-2)

March 08, 2016 20:45pm - Volkswagen Arena

Champions League

After a thrilling first leg, Wolfsburg and Gent will reconvene at the Volkswagen Arena with the home side holding a slight advantage.

Away win gives Wolfsburg the edge

After scoring three away goals and edging to a 3-2 win in the first leg, the German side will be favourites to progress to the Quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Wolfsburg`s only defeats at home this season have come at the hands of Germany`s top two team, Bayern Munich and Borrusia Dortmund. They won all three of their home matches in the Group Stage of the competition.

In their most recent match, they beat league rivals Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 - a result that lifted them to seventh in the Bundesliga table.

A dip in form for Gent

After a strong start to the season, Gent have suffered a slight dip in form and have now won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions. As a result, they have slipped to second in the Belgian league and were also knocked out of the Belgian Cup.

In their last match, they drew 1-1 at home to relegation candidates OH Leuven. Away from home they have lost three of their last four matches - however, they did win their final away game in the Champions League Group stage when they beat Lyon 2-1 in France.

Team news

The home side will be without Naldo, Paul Seguin, Sebastian Jung and Bas Dost, while Nicklas Bendtner and Diego Benaglio remain doubtful.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Gustav Wikheim, Peter Olayinka, Hannes Van der Bruggen.
