Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City - Champions League Quarter-finals Preview and Odds

April 09, 2019 20:00pm - Tottenham Stadium (London)

Champions League: Quarter-finals - first Leg

Thanks to the result of the UEFA draw, at least one Premier League team will exit the Champions League at the quarter-final stage while another is sure to reach the semi-finals. But who will prevail in this all-English tie?

Tottenham Hotspur will hope their new stadium can give them a boost when they take on tournament favourites Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday night. With a tricky second leg at the Etihad still to come, the Londoners know they will need to make the most of home advantage this week.

Mauricio Pochettino`s men got off to the perfect start in their new home, winning 2-0 against Crystal Palace to end a run of five Premier League matches without a win and two-straight defeats in all competitions. They reached the quarter-finals of this competition thanks to a 4-0 aggregate win over German side Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Manchester City continued their quest for the quadruple after booking their plate in the FA Cup final with a win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend. They already have the League Cup under their belt and retain the mathematical advantage over Liverpool in the domestic title race. In addition, the Citizens are also favourites to lift this trophy.

They come into this game on the back of 14-straight wins in all competitions since the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United back in January. They have won six of their last nine Champions League away games, their last defeat coming against English opposition (Liverpool) this time last year.

Pep Guardiola`s men booked their place in the last eight thanks to a stunning 10-2 aggregate win over German side Schalke 04.

Betting odds and tips

Tottenham Hotspur lost their last two home games against City and last beat them back in 2016. City have improved significantly since then, while Spurs have shown little progress. What`s more, a new stadium does not always equate to an instant advantage and City could capitalise as the hosts take time to settle into their new home.

You can back Manchester City to win at 11/10.
