Manchester United vs Barcelona - Champions League Quarter-finals Preview and Odds

March 12, 2019 20:00pm - Old Trafford (Manchester)

Champions League: Quarter-finals - First Leg

Manchester United and Barcelona meet in a competitive match for the first time since the 2011 Champions League final which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Spanish team.

The home side have only reached this stage once since then, falling 4-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich in 2014. Their last victory over Barcelona came back in the 2008 semi-final when they went on to win the competition.

The Red Devils come into this game in poor form having lost three of their last four matches in all competitions including two defeats to Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers. What`s more, they have only one won of their last five matches at home in this competition.

Meanwhile, Barcelona look to have their domestic title sewn up after a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid left them 11 points clear at the top of La Liga. They also have a Copa del Rey final against Valencia to look forward to in May.

Ernesto Valverde`s men have only lost one of their last 20 games in all competitions and are unbeaten in 19 in the league, winning 15. Their 3-0 defeat to Roma at this stage last year was their only Champions League defeat in their last 19 matches.

Betting odds and tips

Manchester United needed a little luck in the last round against Paris Saint-Germain and may need even more if they are to see off the five-time winners. New boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his work cut out as he tries to find a way to stop Lionel Messi and Co.

The Manchester side have looked suspect at the back all season and it is hard to imagine the Catalan side not breaching a rear-guard that has kept just two clean sheets at Old Trafford this term.

If Barcelona bring their A game, expect to see United retreat and eventually buckle under the pressure with Messi getting on the score sheet.

The visitors are well-priced at Evens for the win and the Argentine striker looks good value at 21/20 to score anytime.

You can back Barcelona to Win at Evens and Messi to Score Anytime at 21/20.
