La Liga preview and odds: Atletico Madrid vs Granada

April 17, 2016 18:15pm - Estadio Vicente Calderon

La Liga

Atletico Madrid can pile more pressure on title rivals Barcelona with a win over 17th-ranked Granada on Sunday.

Atletico Madrid can draw level with leaders

Atletico Madrid can draw level on points with Barcelona, for a couple of hours at least, with a win over relegation-threatened Granada on Sunday evening.

Diego Simeone`s men dumped their rivals out of the Champions League in midweek, and will now be looking to scupper their league title hopes over the next six games.

However, it`s not just Barcelona that the Madrid side have to worry about - city rivals Real Madrid have played themselves back into the equation with a supreme run of form.

Atleti have not been beaten at home in the league since September when Barcelona ran out 2-1 winners at Estadio Vicente Calderon. In their last league match, they strolled to a 3-1 victory away to Espnayol.

Granada unbeaten in four

Granada have showed some real resilience in the last few weeks to grind out four draws and keep themselves out of the bottom three. In total, they have lost just one of their last seven games, having won two and drawn the other four.

Jose Gonzalez will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last season final day drama when the Andalucian side had to rely on other results to secure their top-flight status. The clubs recent run of form began when Gonzalez was drafted in as a replacement for popular Coach Jose Ramon Sandoval. Last time out, the Nazaríes were held to a 0-0 draw at home by fellow Andalucians Malaga.

Team news

The home side will have to operate without the injured pair Jose Gimenez and Tiago, and the suspended Filipe Luis.

Meanwhile, Javi Marquez is the only injury concern for the visitors, however Isaac Success is suspended.

Betting odds and tips

Jose Gonzalez will be facing a top-four side for the first time since his arrival at Granada. Despite some impressive performances, an away trip to Atletico Madrid may prove a challenges too far for the relegation battlers.

The visitors have scored just three goals in their last seven away games, while Atleti have conceded just three goals in their last 10 home games.
