Europa League preview and odds: Manchester United vs Midtjylland

February 25, 2016 20:05pm - Old Trafford

Europa League - Round of 32, Second leg

Manchester United face the prospect of being the second English team to be ejected from the Europa League by Midtjylland after losing the first leg of their Round of 32 tie. Can Louis van Gaal`s men save face in the second leg?

United under pressure

Manchester United`s potential involvement in next year`s Champions League could hinge on this Europa League second leg tie. With hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League fading, the English club may have to win this competition if they are compete at the top level next term.

The Red Devils are still favourites to progress to the last 16 but will now have to overturn a narrow deficit after falling 2-1 in the first encounter. In their last match, they recorded their first win in four games by beating League One side Shrewsbury 3-0 away from home in the FA Cup.

Can Midtjylland cause another upset?

Despite beating Southampton in the qualifying stages of this competition, few pundits predicted that FC Midtjylland would be able to find a way past the 20-time English champions.

The Danish side were not that convincing in the group stages - winning just two of their six matches. However, they bagged their third win of the tournament at home to United last Thursday, and now take a 2-1 league into the second leg.

They have failed to win any of their last six competitive away matches, but a draw would be enough to see them through on Thursday.

Team news

The home side are still several key players including Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw.
