Manchester United vs Juventus - Champions League Group Stage

October 23, 2017 20:00pm - Old Tafford

Champions League Group Stage

Manchester United’s fans seem to be in a constant state of flux regarding boss Jose Mourinho. Just when it seems they have turned on the experienced coach, there is a fresh backing of support, the latest of which followed the team’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

This trend reveals the nature of what has been an up and down season for the Old Trafford club. Their five-year title drought looks set to be extended for another years at least, so they will be relying on cup competitions for a taste of glory.

The stalemate against Chelsea might have felt like a defeat after the Red Devils overturned a one goal deficit to take a lead into the final minutes of the game. The scenes that followed the late equaliser for Chelsea have been well documented but the reality is the defeat left the Manchester club 10th in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of the leaders from across the city.

Only the fightback against Newcastle last weekend prevented Mourinho’s men from coming into this game on the back of a six-game winless streak. However, they remain unbeaten in the Champions League having beaten off Young Boys in Switzerland and drawn at home to Valencia.

In contrast, Juventus have won 10 and drawn one of the 11 games they have played this season. The only blemish was the 1-1 draw at home to Genoa in Serie A last weekend. New signing Cristiano Ronaldo has settled in well and will relish the chance to go up against his former club. Despite not opening his account until September 16, he has now scored five goals in 10 appearances for his new club. He will now go in search of his first Champions League goal for the Turin club.

Betting odds and tips

Manchester United’s defensive issues resulted in just three clean sheets this term with 18 goals shipped across 12 matches. However, they have scored in all but one of those games. Juventus have found the net in very game they have played this season, so the Both Teams to Score bet could feature here. If you want to combine this with a match win bet, the Away win looks the sensible choice.

You can back the Both Teams to Score and Juventus to win at 4/1.
