Premier League preview and odds: Arsenal vs Watford

April 02, 2016 15:00pm - Emirates Stadium

Premier League

Arsenal will be attempting to keep their fading Premier League title hopes alive when they host out-of-form Watford at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Top four not guaranteed for Gunners

Arsenal may not be out of the title race just yet but their position in the top four is also far from guaranteed. With Manchester United and West Ham closing in, defeat at home to Watford would effectively end the Gunner’s title hopes, while also jeopardising their top four ambitions.

Arsene Wenger`s men are 11 points adrift of the league leaders with just one game in hand, but just five points ahead of sixth-ranked Manchester United. They have won just three of their last 10 Premier League matches and will need a drastic reversal of form if they are to catch the pace-setters.

In their last game, the North Londoners eased to a 2-0 victory away to 12th-ranked Everton. Prior to that, they were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona, and exited the FA Cup at the hands of this weekend`s opponents.

Top-flight status all but secure for Watford

Despite a recent slump in form, Watford appear to have achieved their goal of retaining their Premier League status for another season. The Hornets are 11 point clear of the drop zone with eight games left to play and currently sit in 14th place in the table with a total of 37 points.

The Hertfordshire club recently knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup and will be looking for a repeat performance. In their last league match, they were beaten 2-1 on home soil by Stoke City. Away from home, they have won just one of their last six league matches.

Team news

The Londoners will continue without the service of Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere.

Meanwhile, the visitors should have a full strength side to choose from.

Betting odds and tips

Arsenal have won just won of their last four home games in the league, while Watford lost four of their last five away games and failed to score in all of them. However, the Gunners have much more to play for and should just edge this one.
