Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea - Champions League Group Stage

September 27, 2017 19:45pm - Estadio Wanda Metropolitano

Champions League Group Stage

Regular Champions League challengers Atletico Madrid will continue their quest for a maiden trophy when they welcome 2011/12 champions Chelsea to Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night.

Having reached the final in two of the last four editions of the event, Diego Simeone`s men are desperate to go one further and bag the coveted crown. It doesn`t help that they lost both finals to arch rivals Real Madrid who themselves are seeking a third-straight title this season.

Atleti kicked off their campaign with a goalless draw away to Roma so anything other than a win here could leave them chasing the top two in the Group C. They have yet to be beataen in La Liga, having won four and drawn three and have won 10 of their last 11 Champions League home ties, the exception being a 0-0 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Chelsea opened their campaign with a 6-0 win over group outsiders Qarabag of Azerbaijan. Since then, they have remained unbeaten on the domestic front. A win in Atletico Madrid`s impressive new stadium would further enhance their status as group favourites.

The Blues have recovered from their early season wobbles and look a formidable force once again. However, this trip to Madrid is undoubtedly their biggest challenge of the season so far. With both managers prioritising defensive stability, we could be in for a cagey encounter and it might take a moment of individual magic to open the game up.

Betting odds and tips

With both sides evenly matched for quality and tight at the back, this game could end up goalless or being decided by a single strike. As a result, the odds on Both Teams Not to Score look good value at 3/4.

With the game likely to be low scoring, it might require something special to split the teams and Antoine Griezmann is certainly capable of fulfilling that brief. The Frenchman is available at a decent 5/4 to score anytime in this match.

You can back against both teams scoring at 3/4 with Bet365, while Griezmann can be backed to score anytime at 5/4 with the same bookmaker.
