AS Roma vs Liverpool Preview - Champions League Preview and Odds

Roma like to do things the hard way. And if they want to progress to the Champions League final, they will have to overhaul another three-goal deficit on Wednesday night. However, the two late goals they scored in the first leg at Anfield at least gave them a chance.

The euphoria that followed the comeback against Barcelona, was soon forgotten as the Roma goal net bulged for the fifth time last week. But as Liverpool took their foot off the gas, the tie seemingly over, Roma snatched two late goals to keep their hopes alive.

They still have a mountain to climb but at least there is something to aim for. Had the score remained 5-0, the second leg would have been a formality.

Mo Salah scored twice against his old club last week as Eusabio Di Francesco seemed to hand the Liverpool front three all the space in the world with his bold formation. The Italian club has struggled to get things right on the road in Europe this term but their home form has been their saviour.

Having snubbed out the threat of Lionel Messi in the last round, the Giallorossi will be looking to do something similar again on Wednesday night. However, they also need to go in search of goals, so tactics will be vital here. They warmed up with a comfortable win over Chievo in which they fielded a strong XI so should feel fairly confident ahead of this match.

In contrast, Liverpool played out a 0-0 draw against Stoke City in a game that felt like a massive comedown after their European exploits. With a top four place still not secure, they now have a vital game against Chelsea coming up. They would have preferred to have arrived here with that quest already complete.

The Reds have scored at least once in every away game in this year`s competition including a five-goal haul in Porto. In general, they have also been more defensively secure in 2018.

An early away goal for Jurgen Klopp`s men could effectively kill the tie but a prompt goal for the home side could set those scouse nerves jangling.
