Burnley vs Manchester City - Premier League Preview and Odds

December 03, 2019 20:15pm - Turf Moor (Burnley)

Premier League

Burnley host Manchester City on Tuesday night with fifth place in the table up for grabs. Meanwhile, the visitors will be desperate for a win as they look to keep their title defence alive.

The Clarets are one of at least a half a dozen teams that are in contention for a top-six finish. There are just two points separating fifth and 11th in the table and the traditional top six now looks to be reduced to a new-look top four with Leicester City gate-crashing the party.

Sean Dyche`s men are level on point with Manchester United and just a point below Arsenal having won four out of seven games at home this season. Last time out, they were beaten on home soil by Crystal Palace and they have yet to win against a team above them in the table.

The Lancashire side have only won one of their last 19 meetings against Tuesday`s opponents, a 1-0 victory back in 2015.

Manchester City kick-off 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool with their hopes of retaining the Premier League title diminishing. With Liverpool playing Everton the following evening, this is a chance for Sky Blues to reduce the gap on a temporary basis at least.

It hasn`t been a great couple of weeks for Pep Guardiola`s men who have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions and one of their last three in the league. They looked to have secured all three points on Saturday when Kevin de Bruyne put them ahead against Newcastle United in the 82nd minute but the Magpies responded through Jonjo Shelvey six minutes later to snatch a point.

The Citizens are now third in the table behind Liverpool and Leicester City. A win would put them level on points with the Foxes who would have a game in hand.

City will be odds-on favourites but they have hit a sticky patch and will be without all-time leading goal-scorer Sergio Aguero. Burnley will look to take advantage and could grab their first home draw of the campaign.
