Champions League preview and odds: PSG vs Manchester City

April 06, 2016 20:45pm - Parc des Princes

Champions League

Representatives from England and France will go head-to-head in the Champions League on Wednesday as fourth-time quarter-finalists PSG welcome last-eight debutants Manchester City to the Parc des Princes.

PSG now regulars amongst Euro elite

PSG will play in their fourth-straight Champions League quarter-final (and their fifth overall) on Wednesday night against a team that has never previously made it this far. Despite their recent success, PSG have not made it past this stage since 1995, when they beat Barcelona 3-2 over two legs to set up an unsuccessful final-four clash with AC Milan. That was their one and only venture into the last four.

Last season, the French club were knocked out at this stage by eventual winners Barcelona (who also beat them in 2013), while the year before, it was Chelsea who sent them packing.

Laurent Blanc`s team come into this match having lost just one of their last 19 home games in this competition, and having already secured the French league title. Striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored 34 goals in all competitions this season, including four in eight appearances in Europe.

City in unchartered territory

Manchester City are keen to establish themselves as one of Europe`s top clubs, but to do that, they will have to compete in the latter stages of this competition on a regular basis. Having now made it to the last eight for the first time in their history, they now have a chance to make their mark on the competition by knocking out one of the big guns.

The Citizens have lost just one game on the road in the current campaign - a 1-0 defeat at Juventus. However, in the Premier League, they have one just three of their last 12 away games, having lost four and drawn the other five.

While City do not have much experience at this level, their manager certainly has. Manuel Pellegrini led Spanish side Villarreal to the quarter-final stages twice - in 2005/06 and 2008/09 - and to the semi-finals once (2005/06). He also guided Malaga to the quarter-finals in 2012/13.

Team news

The home side will have to make do without Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Raheem Sterling, Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany, while Yaya Toure, Fabian Delph, Kevin de Bruyne and Samir Nasri are all doubtful.
