Liverpool vs Genk - Champions League Group Stage Preview and Odds

November 05, 2019 20:00pm - Anfield (England)

Champions League: Group Stage

Reigning European champions Liverpool had a stumbling start to their title defence losing away to Napoli on the opening matchday. They then made hard work of home tie against Salzburg, throwing away a three-goal lead before finally winning 4-3. Last time out was more like business as usual as they brushed past Genk 4-1 away from home.

Next up, they face the Belgians again, this time at Anfield where nothing less than a home win will be expected. All three points would put them in the driving seat in Group E with a home match against Napoli and a trip to Salzburg still to come.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League and have not lost a home match since an understrength side lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the League Cup more than a year ago. They have not been playing at their best but have developed an incredible mentality and have the ability to grind out results when it matters.

They is little reason to believe the result will be anything other than a comfortable win for the Reds but they will want to avoid any complacency and get the job done with minimum fuss.

In contrast, Genk have had a poor start to their domestic campaign and are languishing in eighth place, 13 points adrift of leaders Club Brugge with 13 games played. They have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions and have earned just a single point from their three Champions League matches.

Betting odds and tips

Liverpool tend to get better as this tournament goes on and will be keen to win all three of their remaining Group Stage games. As a result, a close-to-full strength team can be expected as they look to wrap the game up as quickly as possible ahead of their weekend clash with Manchester City. Genk will try to avoid embarrassment but their real focus will be on the upcoming home game with Salzburg which will be crucial in their quest to finish third in the group.

At 13/8, it could be worth backing Liverpool to win by four goals or more as Klopp looks to turn up the heat ahead of some important games in the next couple of weeks.

You can back Liverpool To Win By Four Goals Or More at 13/8.
