La Liga preview and odds: Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid

April 09, 2016 18:15pm - RCDE Stadium

La Liga

Espanyol have been in good form in recent weeks but can they overcome the challenge of title-chasing Atletico Madrid when they teams clash in Barcelona on Saturday?

Espanyol finding form at the right time

Espnayol are unbeaten in four and have lost just one of their last six La Liga matches. As a result they have pulled clear of the drop zone and currently occupy 13th place in the table.

On home soil, they have won three of their last four and lost just two of their last 11 - however, those defeats to Real Betis (0-3) and Real Sociedad (0-5) exposed their occasional vulnerability.

Atletico still in title race

Atletico Madrid were handed a life-line in the title race by city rivals Real Madrid, who defeated league leaders Barcelona in El Clasico at the weekend. However, even with that result, Diego Simeone`s men are still six points adrift of the reigning champions.

In their last away match, they were beaten 2-1 by lowly Sporting Gijon after conceding two late goals. They followed that up with a 5-1 hammering of Real Betis on home soil.

Team news

The home side have just one injury concern with Arbilla still unavailable. Meanwhile, Jose Gimenez and Tiago will both be out of action for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

Atletico slipped up in Gijon in their last away game but a similar performance is unlikely. The Colchoneros should have too much quality for Constantin Galca`s men.
