Newcastle United vs Manchester United - Premier League Preview and Odds

October 05, 2019 14:00pm - St JamesÂ’ Park (Newcastle)

Premier League

Newcastle United need a win against Manchester United on Sunday to lift themselves out of the bottom three after a poor start to the current campaign. The visitors have also started poorly but a win would ease some of the pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and haul the club back into the top six.

The Magpies have failed to impress this season despite their shock 1-0 win away to an out-of-form Tottenham Hotspur side back in August. Last time out, they were well beaten 5-0 by Leicester City and prior to that, they played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Geordies comfortably avoided relegation in the last two seasons under Rafa Benitez but are already favourites for the drop this term. Steve Bruce could soon come under pressure if their poor form continues.

Manchester United kick-off 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool with just seven games played. That scenario would have been unthinkable a few years ago but now comes as little surprise as the former Premier League giants continue their decline into mid-table obscurity.

Defeat on Sunday would pile more pressure on under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, while also raising more questions about what is going on behind the scenes at the club.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches and have yet to win away from home in the current campaign. In fact, their last Premier League away win came at Crystal Palace back in February. Overall, they have failed to win any of their last 10 away games in all competitions since beating Paris Saint-Germain back in March, the game that prompted the club to hand a new contract to the Norwegian.

Betting odds and tips

Newcastle United have won just one of their last nine matches against Manchester United but they will fancy their chances of taking something from this game. After beating Tottenham away and restricting Arsenal to a 1-0 at St James` Park back in August, there is evidence to suggest they could make things difficult for the 20-time league champions. As a result, the draw looks like the best value bet in this game.

You can back the Draw at 23/10.
