Premier League preview and odds: Manchester City vs Arsenal

May 08 , 2016 16:00pm - Etihad Stadium

Premier League

Following their disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City will now have to refocus their efforts on securing a top-four finish when third-ranked Arsenal pay a visit to the Etihad on Sunday.

City boss looking to bow out on a high note

After leading his side to League Cup glory and their first ever Champions League semi-final, Manuel Pellegrini will now be looking to sign off his Manchester City career on a positive note by securing a top-finish.

Losing out on a Champions League place to arch rivals Manchester United would not be the ideal way for the Chilean to bow out after what has a been a relatively successful tenure in England.

In their last six home matches in the league, the Sky Blues have won three and lost three with the defeats coming at the hands of Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Another loss on Sunday would complete a quartet of home defeats against teams in the top five.

Gunners eyeing second place

Arsenal fans may not be too happy with how this season has panned out in terms of trophies, but with another top-four finish virtually in the bag, boss Arsene Wenger has remained defiant in the face of criticism.

The Gunners could still finish in second place behind already-crowned champions Leicester City and above arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur. However, finishing above the two Manchester teams, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool and still not winning the league would surely be the cruellest outcome imaginable for the North Londoners.

Wenger`s men are unbeaten in their last eight in the league and come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win over relegation battlers Norwich City. Away from home, they have drawn three of their last four and won just two of their last nine.

Team news

On the injury front, David Silva, Yaya Toure are likely to miss out for the home side. Meanwhile, Per Mertesacker remains on the side-lines for the Gunners.

Betting odds and tips

City will be feeling a bit jaded after their mid-week Euro exploits and Arsenal have a habit of drawing away to teams in the top half of the table.
