Manchester United vs Manchester City - Premier League Preview and Odds

March 08, 2020 16:30pm - Old Trafford (Manchester)

Premier League

All eyes will be on Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United host arch-rivals Manchester City with local bragging rights at stake.

The home side have their eyes on Champions League qualification and could go fourth with a win on Sunday depending on how Chelsea`s game against Everton pans out. Ironically, a win would also push their other great rivals Liverpool closer to their first Premier League crown in 30 years. But that will be of little concern to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer`s men who are trying to salvage something from a lacklustre season.

The Red Devils have gone nine games unbeaten in all competitions and four games unbeaten in the Premier League. On home soil, they have lost just one of their last 12 in the league.

They come into this game on the back of a 3-0 FA Cup win away to Derby County. Prior to that, they were held to a 1-1 draw away from home to Everton. Much of their recent improvement can be attributed to new signing Bruno Fernandes who made an immediate impact on arrival. The club have not lost any of the four Premier League matches he has started and he already has two goal and two assists to his name.

Meanwhile, Manchester City already have one trophy in the bag but have little left to play for in the league with a top-four finish almost certain. That combined with their upcoming European ban will put their main focus on winning the Champions League this season.

Having said that, the Manchester derby is one the biggest games on the club`s calendar and Pep Guardiola will want to take all three points from this one and build some momentum in the build-up to their clash with Real Madrid in nine days time.

Predicted line-ups:

Man Utd: De Gea Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw Matic, Fred James, Fernandes, Martial Ighalo

Man City: Ederson Walker, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Mendy De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling

Recent Form (League)

Manchester United: DWWDL

Manchester City: WWLWD

Betting odds and tips

Manchester City have had the upper hand in this fixture over the last few years with four wins from their last four visits to Old Trafford in the league. However, United won the reverse fixture at the Etihad and have improved their form since then. They have yet to lose a league game with Bruno Fernandes and also have more to play for in the fixture. As a result, they should take something from this game, even if it is only a point.

You can back the Manchester United/Double Chance at 11/10.
