Sheffield United vs West Ham United - Premier League Preview and Odds

January 10, 2020 20:00pm - Bramall Lane (Sheffield)

Premier League

Sheffield United have been one of the season`s surprise packages while West Ham United have failed to live up to expectations. The hosts will take a seven-point lead into their Friday night clash at Bramall.

Chris Wilder`s men came away with little but pride from their recent trips to the Etihad Stadium and Anfield but did well to restrict their opponents to just two goals apiece. They can now look forward to a more winnable fixture as they host struggling West Ham United.

The Blades can take temporary charge of fifth place in the table with a win as they continue their challenge for European places, a scenario that would have seemed unlikely at the start of the campaign.

The Sheffield club have lost just one of their last six on home soil although they were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Watford on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, West Ham United will look to continue the new manager bounce which accompanied the arrival of David Moyes. The Hammers begin their second spell under the Scotsman with a 4-0 win at home to Bournemouth. However, they remain just two points clear of the relegation zone with 20 games played. A win on Friday would give them some much-needed breathing space.

Moyes guided the club to safety back in 2018 but was not offered a new contract. He will be hoping for more this time as he looks to restore his reputation as a top-flight coach following poor spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

Betting odds and tips

Sheffield United have surprised many with their style of play and competitive performances. Only Liverpool have truly dominated them this season and they have improved at home as the season has gone on.

The Londoners have been pretty unpredictable this season and David Moyes will have his work cut out getting a win on the road on Friday.
