Premier League preview and odds: Bournemouth vs. Newcastle

November 7, 2015 12:45pm - Vitality Stadium

Premier League

With just one point from their last five games, league strugglers Bournemouth are close to sinking into the relegation zone and must now take on a Newcastle team who are just one place below them in the league at the Vitality stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Bournemouth in a rut

Last term’s tier-two champions are finding positive results hard to come by in the Premier League, and will be hoping to stop their downward trajectory when they meet their relegation rivals this weekend. The Cherries are without a win in five games and have only picked up one point since they defeated Sunderland way back in September.

In the last game at St Mary’s, Bournemouth never looked like beating a dominant Southampton side, even when they were handed a one-man advantage following Victor Wanyama’s sending off on the 78th minute. The 2-0 defeat was the third straight defeat for Eddie Howe’s team who must now dig deep to avoid being sucked into the relegation void.

Small shoots of recovery for Newcastle

Newcastle United have lost just two of their last five games and have showed small signs of recovery in the last few weeks. They bounced back from the disappointing defeat away to Sunderland by holding Stoke at home last weekend. A draw against the Potters may not be any cause for celebration but the Geordies once again showed that they can be competitive against the teams above them in the league.

The Tyneside team have taken five points from their last five games which is a marked improvement from the single point that they took from the previous five. Their latest point took their total to seven and they now sit in 18th place in the table just one place behind Saturday’s South Coast opponents.

Barcodes boss Steve McClaren will view this game as the perfect opportunity for the club to climb out of the bottom three and earn amuch-needed morale boost.

Team news

Newcastle have been plagued with injury problems all season, and this weekend will be no different with a total of 12 players either missing or doubtful for this bottom-of-the-table clash.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have an extensive injury list of their own but will be hoping to welcome back Artur Boruc for the game against Newcastle.

Betting odds and tips

Bournemouth are caught in the relegation tractor beam and getting slowly pulled in. Meanwhile, Newcastle have started to pick up points and are moving slowly upwards. The teams could finally cross paths this weekend if the Geordies can secure their first win on the road of the seasson. The away win can be backed at 12/5 with Betfred.
