The National Hunt Challenge Cup, also known as the National Hunt Chase has been held since 1860. It is a race for amateur riders and was previously run over a distance of four miles but has been shortened to three-mile and six furlongs from 2020 onwards. The race concludes the action on Day One of the Festival.
The Irish have a good record here and boast a strong selection once again including the aptly named Carefully Selected who arrives with an unbeaten record. It has been noted by some critics that he is prone to the kind of mistake that could cost him in such a big race so his team will be out to prove the doubters wrong.
Another strong contender is Ravenhill who is trained by Gordon Elliott. It was Elliott who guided Tiger Roll to victory here in 2017 and jockey Jamie Codd also has a good record in the race having won on Le Breuil last year and on Cause of Causes for Elliott in 2015. Forza Milan is another string Irish horse and looks well priced for an each-way bet at 14/1.
