Moldova vs Georgia - World Cup Qualification Europe Preview and Odds

June 11, 2017 17:00pm - Stadium Zimbru

World Cup Qualification - Group D

If there is one game that Moldova will fancy their chances of winning in their World Cup qualifying campaign, it is this one. They picked up their only point of Group D so far in the reverse fixture in Georgia back in November when the teams played out a 1-1 draw. What`s more, they also warmed up for this game with an unexpected 1-1 stalemate away to Israel.

With zero hope of qualifying from the group, the Moldovans will be looking to avoid finishing bottom of the group. Having already conceded 13 goals, they may not even be able to rely on goal difference to get them through. A win here on Sunday would lift them above Georgia into fifth place in the table. To achieve that task, they will have to break a winless streak on home soil that stretches back 13 games to 2013.

Meanwhile, Georgia have fared only slightly better, having picked up just two points in their campaign so far, one against Moldova and the other, a more impressive stalemate in Wales. Recent friendly wins against Latvia and St Kitts and Nevis will have acted as good preparation for this clash - however, they have not won any of their last 12 World Cup qualifying matches.

Remarkable, their last away win came against Spain (0-1) in the build-up to Euro 2016. That friendly triumph was their only victory in their last 12 away matches. Despite their lack of wins on the road, they have not been short of goals, having netted in six of their last eight away games. However, they have only recorded one clean sheet in their last 12 matches away from home.

Betting odds and tips

With little to separate these two teams, this match could go either way, although Moldova may just have the edge thanks their status as hosts. In fact, they look good value for the win at 12/5. Another wager worth looking at is Both Teams to Score which can be backed at 11/10.

Moldova to win can be backed at 12/5 with Bet365, while Both Teams to Score can be backed at 11/10 with Bet365. Combining both options (Moldova win/Both Teams to Score) gives a price of 7/1.
