Europa League preview and odds: Liverpool vs Borussia Dortmund

April 14, 2016 21:05pm - Anfield

Europa League

Liverpool defied the odds by grabbing a draw and an away goal in Dortmund to take the initiative in this Europa League quarter-final tie.

Liverpool with Anfield advantage

After holding Borussia Dortmund to a draw and grabbing an away goal in the first leg, Liverpool will feel they have the slight advantage heading into the second leg of this Europa League tie at Anfield. However, the bookmakers still have the Germans down as favourites to progress.

The Reds put in a mature display against Jurgen Klopp`s old team and will now be hoping that home advantage will come into play. There is sure to be an electric atmosphere as Anfield once plays host to top level European opposition.

The Merseyside team come into this game on the back of an impressive 4-1 drubbing of Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League. They have lost just two of their last 12 games in all competitions including the Capital One Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Dortmund still favourites

Despite failing to win the first leg of this Europa League tie, Dortmund are still slight favourites to progress to the semi-finals stage. The Germans will have to score at least one goal if they are to advance, as a 0-0 draw would see them eliminated from the competition on the away goals rule.

The second-ranked team in the Bundesliga have lost just one of their last 25 matches in all competitions, and just one of their last 16 away from home. In their last league fixture, they rested several players in a 2-2 draw away to rivals Schalke 04.

Team news

Liverpool will be without the injured group of Christian Benteke, Jordan Rossiter, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.

Meanwhile, Neven Subotic is the only confirmed absentee for the visitors.
