Venus Williams vs Jelena Ostapenko - Wimbledon Quarter-finals preview and odds

July 11, 2017 14:00am - Wimbledon

Wimbledon Championships WomenÂ’s Tennis

Tuesday`s Centre Court crowd will be treated to showdown between two Grand Slam winners on Tuesday when 37-year-old seven-time major champion Venus Williams takes on 20-year-old 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Having already disposed of 19-year-old rising star Ana Konjuh in the last round, Williams will now look to teach another youngster a lesson in this quarter-final clash. The American did not drop a service game in that match as she continues to defy her age, challenging and dominating players from across different eras of the game. With both her sister and Maria Sharapova out of the equation she might just fancy her chances of bagging Wimbledon title number six this week.

Her rival may provide a slight tougher challenge than Konjuh as she attempts to build on her French Open win. Jelena Ostapenko came through the fourth round in straight sets, seeing off the challenge of Elina Svitolina after some gritty performances in the earlier rounds. She will now look to extend her unbeaten run in Grand Slams to 12 matches by beating one of the legends of the game.

Defending her own serve could be her biggest challenge here as she faces the might of Williams for the first time. However, if she can land her first serves well and get in to her usual attacking flow, she could cause the five-time former champion some real problems.

Betting odds and tips

This battle of youth versus experience is certainly one of the standout games in the quarter-final schedule and should be a thriller. If the youngster can start well and land her first serves, this one could go all the way.
