Manchester City vs Schalke 04 - Champions League Round of 16

March 12, 2019 20:00pm - Etihad Stadium (Manchester)

Champions League, Round of 16 - Second Leg

Having won the Carabao Cup and wrestled back control of the Premier League from rivals Liverpool, Manchester City will now look to book their place in the quarter finals of the Champions League by finsihing off Schalke 04.

The English side kick off with a 3-2 aggregate advantage after a pulsating first leg in which they scored twice in the last five minutes after falling behind. In-form attacker Raheem Sterling got the vital winning goal to make City clear favourites to progress.

The Sky Blues have now won nine games in a row in all competitions including last weekend`s 3-1 victory over Watford. That game remained finely poised until early in the second half when a Raheem Sterling goal was given despite the player being in an offside position. Form that moment, the home side seemed more relaxed and went on to win the game comfortably.

Meanwhile, Schalke 04 arrive in the northwest of England in terrible shape having lost their last four matches in all competitions, conceding 14 goals while scoring just four. They currently sit 14th in the Bundesliga just four points above the relegation play-off position.

Last time out, they were 4-2 at Werder Bremen to make it three away defeats in a row for Die Knappen. They have recorded just one victory in their last 10 away matches in all competitions.

The Germans will look to draw inspiration from their exploits in 2015 when they beat Real Madrid 4-3 at the Bernabeu. They still lost that tie 5-4 on aggregate but proved they could go to a major European rival and perform under pressure after losing the first leg. Recent form (all competitions)

Betting odds and tips

City are massive favourites for this so there is very little value to be had unless you are brave enough to back a Schalke 04 comeback.

Leroy Sane scored against his former club in the first leg and could haunt them again on Tuesday night. A price of 7/5 for the German to score anytime is a tempting proposition in a game with few clear betting opportunities.

Schalke have been leaking goals at a frightening rate recently and will have to take risks here. As a result, we could see a high goal count making the Over 3.5 Goals bet worth considering at 10/11.

You can back Leroy Sane as Anytime Goalscorer at 7/5 or Over 3.5 Goals at 10/11.
