Premier League preview and odds: Everton vs Southampton

April 16 , 2016 15:00pm - Goodison Park

Premier League

Everton will try to halt a run of three straight home defeats on Saturday when they welcome seventh-ranked Southampton to Goodison Park in the Barclays Premier League.

One win in nine at home for Toffees

Everton have won just one of their last nine league matches on home soil, having drawn two and lost the other six. Their poor form has seen them slip to 14th place in the league table, although they do have games in hand on the teams around them.

In their last game, they picked up their first point in four weeks with a 1-1 draw on the road at Watford. Prior to that, they suffered three straight defeats to Manchester United (1-0), Arsenal (2-0) and West Ham (3-2).

Roberto Martinez`s men have conceded at least one goal in 14 of the 16 home games that they have played this season.

Southampton chasing European qualification spot

While Everton have little left to play for in the Premier League, visitors Southampton are still in the hunt for the European qualification places.

The Saints have won three of their last four league matches and remain just three points adrift of fifth place with five games left to play. However, they may have to rely on both Manchester United and West Ham United slipping up if they are to grab that coveted Europa League qualification position.

Away from home, Ronald Koeman`s men have won three of their last six games, having drawn one and lost the other two.

Team news

Everton are still without the injured duo of Phil Jagielka and Ross Barkley, while Leon Osman, Steven Pienaar, Tyias Browning and Tony Hibbert are all doubtful.

Meanwhile, Charlie Austin is still not fully fit for the visitors.
