Roger Federer vs Milos Raonic - Wimbledon Quarter-finals preview and odds

July 12, 2017 14:00am - Wimbledon

Wimbledon Championships Men’s Tennis

The second match on centre court on Wednesday will see a repeat of last year`s semi-final clash as seven-time former champion Roger Federer takes on seventh-ranked Milos Raonic.

The Swiss legend has barely been troubled in this year`s tournament, having yet to drop a set on his way to the quarter-final stage. It was expected that Grigor Dimitrov would provide a tougher test in the last round but in the end, it was another routine win in straight sets for the 35-year-old. A rested and fully fit Federer is an ominous prospect for any player and it is no surprise that he has been installed as favourite with the bookmakers.

Meanwhile, Raonic arrives at the quarter-finals on the back of a tough fourth round encounter with Alexander Zverev. The game went all the way to five sets, but the final set turned into something of a stroll as his young opponent ran out of steam. The Canadian`s consistent performances over the last year or two have given a hint that he is on the right trajectory to bag a Grand Slam at some point - but could it be this year? A win against Federer on Wednesday would make him a legitimate contender.

Last year`s win against Roger and subsequent appearance in the final will have certainly given him some crucial experience. Despite his limited commitment to the grass court schedule in recent years, he always seems to perform well on this surface and has made it to two finals in his last three events.

Betting odds and tips

Federer boast a 9-3 record against his rival but he was beaten by him in the semi-finals of this event last year. Despite that loss, the Swiss player is priced very short making the odds for a Raonic win look very tempting.

At a price of 4/1 with Bet365, a win for Raonic looks tempting enough for a small stake.
