Manchester City vs Fulham - Premier League Preview and Odds

September 15, 2018 15:00pm - Etihad Stadium

Premier League

Manchester City`s Premier League title defence continues as they take on newly-promoted Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After a shaky start to the season, the visitors arrive unbeaten in their last two outings.

After cruising to the title last season, Manchester City may have expected a tougher challenge this term and the opening few weeks have validated those concerns. Pep Guardiola’s men have only dropped two points this term but that was enough to leave them fourth in the table with four games played. Title rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, and surprise package Watford all come into this weekend defending 100% records.

The Blues have already found the net 11 times, more than any other team in the league, but have conceded three leaving them with the same goal difference as Liverpool. With things expected to be much tighter this year, it is these fine margins that could make all the difference come May.

The Citizens have lost just one of their last 33 league matches on home soil (against Manchester United last term) so the statistics are not on Fulham`s side. However, Huddersfield Town did leave with a point back in May once the title had already been sewn up.

Fulham may carry the newly-promoted tag but a summer spending spree that topped £100m leaves little room for excuses as they look secure their Premier League status for another term. Things got off to a terrible start as they were beaten 2-0 at home by fellow newcomers Cardiff City. That was followed up by a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before they finally got off the mark with a 4-2 win at home to Burnley. They followed that up with a 2-2 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion in which they let a two-goal lead slip. This game will provide a great test for two sides with very different ambitions.
