Kim Muir Handicap Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival

March 15, 2018 17:30pm - Cheltenham

Cheltenham Festival

Distance: 3m 2f

Runners: 23

Winner: £41,510.00 2nd: £13,034.00 3rd: £6,517.00 4th: £3,255.00 5th: £1,631.00 6th: £819.00 7th: £413.00 8th: £196.00

Going: Good to soft (soft in places)

The final race on Day Three of the Cheltenham Festival tests Amateur Riders over a distance of three miles and two furlongs. This race is suited to experienced amateurs as demonstrated by Jamie Codd`s four previous victories in this renewal.

Last year, the Warren Greatrex-trained Missed Approach saw off the challenge of hotly tipped Irish raiders Mall Dini and Squouateur to bag the win for jockey Noel McParlan.

The Young Master bounced back from a dip in form with a win at Chepstow and followed that up with another here at Cheltenham back in November. He subsequently pulled up in his last chase at Newbury, but looks ready to bounce back again with part-owner Sam Waley-Cohen on board.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Measureofmydreams should head off as favourite. He failed to progress after a super showing in the National Hunt Chase in 2016 in which he finished third to Minella Rocco and was then side-lined with injury for the best part of two years. He returned with a respectable third at Fairyhouse last month and heads off on a temptingly low mark.

Livelovelaugh carries top weight as well as the hopes of father/son duo Willie and Patrick Mullins under his saddle. He finished second at Leopardstown last time out following a couple of disappointing efforts and should relish the longer trip. The combination of horse, stable and jockey cannot be ignored and with prices as high as 22/1 available, he is the each-way pick for this race.
