Premier League preview and odds: Swansea vs Watford

January 18, 2016 20:00pm - Liberty Stadium

Premier League

Swansea City will be looking for a win to haul themselves out of the drop zone on Monday night when they welcome a Watford side who are winless in four to the Liberty Stadium in the Barclays Premier League.

Swansea slip into danger zone

Following the weekend’s other results, Swansea City find themselves stuck in the relegation places, and will need to pick up all three points against Watford if they are to return to a position of safety.

Since Garry Monk departed, the Swans have continued their downward trajectory and have yet to appoint a permanent successor. They have won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches and have amassed just six points in that period.

Last time out, they were beaten 4-2 at home by fellow relegation candidates Sunderland after leading at half time. In their two previous home games, they beat West Bromwich Albion (1-0) and drew with West Ham (0-0), so there are some positives to draw upon for boss Alan Curtis.

Watford looking to snap winless run

A run of three straight defeats has pulled Watford down from the heady heights of the top six into the lower half of the Premier League table. They now sit in 11th place, exactly 10 points above the drop zone and 10 points below the top four.

As a newly-promoted side, they have defied all forecasts for the season so far, but they will be keen to build on their achievements rather than falling back into line with expectations.

They come into this game on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Southampton in which they rarely threatened. Prior to that, they suffered back-to-back 2-1 home defeats to Tottenham and Manchester City.

Team news

The home side have a fully-fit squad to choose from. Meanwhile, Watford will be without Lloyd Doyley and Joel Ekstrand for the trip to Wales.

Betting odds and tips

Swansea have won just one of their last nine home games and are suffering from a crisis of confidence. Meanwhile, the visitors have lost just three of their 10 away games this season, having won four and drawn three others.

The Hornets look like good value to bounce back for the win at 23/10 with Bet365.
