FA Cup preview and odds: Liverpool vs Exeter City

January 20, 2015 20:00pm - Anfield

FA Cup Third Round Replay

After playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the West Country, Liverpool and Exeter City will resume their FA Cup Third Round battle at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Reds likely to field stronger XI

Liverpool probably could have done without an extra fixture in their already busy schedule, but they were unable to field a team capable of eliminating Exeter at the first attempt, and must now try and get the job done back on home soil. Their plight has not been made any easier by their recent injury woes, but they will get no sympathy from opponents who can only dream of having the resources of a Premier League club.

The Reds may once gain decide to field some of their less-experienced players but they will at least have some recognised central defenders available.

The Merseyside club come into this game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to arch rivals Manchester United, in which they dominated but were unable to find a cutting edge. The decisive goal once again came from a set piece that was not dealt with effectively.

Exeter out to upset the odds

Exeter fully deserved their draw in the first game and have been rewarded with a lucrative televised replay at Anfield. However, the trip north is more than just a pay day for Paul Tisdale`s men, who know that victory would set up yet another home clash against a Premier League side (West Ham).

Since drawing with Liverpool, the Grecians have secured four points from two away fixtures in League Two, lifting them to 14th in the table and just five points outside of the play-off zone.

Team news

Exeter are expected to field a close-to-full-strength team with Christian Ribeiro, David Noble and Jamie McAllister all back to full match fitness.

Liverpools injury problems persist with Philippe Countinho, Daniel Sturridge, Martyn Skrtel and Dejan Lovren amongst the key names missing.
