Liverpool vs Manchester United - Premier League Preview and Odds

January 19, 2020 16:30pm - Anfield (Liverpool)

Premier League

With Manchester City dropping points yet again on Saturday, Liverpool will look to take advantage by extending their lead at the top of the table on Sunday. Out to frustrate them will be old rivals Manchester United who continue their own quest for a top-four finish.

Liverpool`s incredible run of form has lifted them 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with two games in hand. It now seems almost inevitable that they will land their first Premier League trophy in 30 years.

However, their one slip up this season came at Old Trafford when they were held to a 1-1 draw. And they have only won one of their last five Premier League home games against the Red Devils. That win came last season when Klopp`s men earned a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri (2).

The Reds are unbeaten in their last 51 Premier League home matches and have won 25 of the last 26, the exception being a 1-1 draw against Leicester City almost a year ago.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are 27 points adrift of their rivals and five points outside the top four. At the end of this campaign, it will be seven years since they won a league title and they currently look further away than ever from achieving that goal.

The United board have shown faith in former star Ole Gunnar Solksjaer but there has been little sign of improvement as they battle for league position with the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and newly-promoted Sheffield United. A win at Anfield would give the club an enormous boost although it would come against all the odds.

Predicted line-ups:

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander- Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Manchester United: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Jones, Williams, Fred, Matic, James, Mata, Greenwood, Rashford.

Betting odds and tips

The form book can sometimes go out the window in these fixtures but the gulf between the two sides has rarely been this big. Anfield has become a fortress and Manchester United will be facing Liverpool`s first-choice full-back pairing of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson on Merseyside for the first time.

As a result, it is hard to see past a home win with the Reds aiming for their seventh-straight clean sheet. The Home Win to Nil looks like the best bet for this game.
