Huddersfield Town vs Newcastle United - Premier League Preview and Odds

August 20, 2017 13:30pm - The John Smith’s Stadium

Premier League

Huddersfield Town will look to make it two Premier League wins from two when they welcome fellow newcomers Newcastle United to the John Smith`s Stadium on Sunday lunchtime.

After a lengthy absence from top flight football, Huddersfield Town enjoyed a dream start to their Premier League campaign, cruising to 3-0 victory away to Crystal Palace. They will now make their Premier League home debut against the team that finished 13 points above them in last year`s Championship table.

New signings Tom Ince and Steve Mounie both impressed in last week`s win and the Terriers will be looking for more of the same when they step out in front of their home crowd.

Meanwhile, Newcastle were doing a good job of containing Tottenham Hotspur in their season opener at St. James` Park until Jonjo Shelvey got himself sent off around the hour mark. Playing with 10 men eventually took its toll as Rafa Benitez`s men fell to a 2-0 defeat. In a further blow, new signing Florian Lejeune was taken off injured and will be out of action for a few weeks.

The Magpies had the best defensive record away from home in the Championship last season, while Huddersfield leaked a lot of goals at home compared to the other top six teams. The last four encounters between these two sides all featured Over 2.5 goals and that bet looks like a good option here.

Betting odds and tips

Huddersfield played well on the opening day but in truth, Crystal Palace looked awful. Newcastle will arrive here much better prepared and with a vastly experienced manager at the helm. The Geordies looked comfortable against Spurs until they were reduced to 10 men and will make life very difficult for the hosts on Sunday. They won 3-1 here back in March and a similar result should be expected here.

You can back Newcastle to win and Both Teams to Score at 11/2 with Bet365. As an alternative, Over 2.5 Goals can be backed at 23/20, also with Bet365.
