Two of the teams trying to squeeze through the door of European qualification will battle it out on Sunday afternoon as Villarreal welcome SD Eibar to El Madrigal in La Liga.

Villarreal staking claim for top four

After a stunning start to the season in which they won five of their first six games, the wheels have fallen off slightly for Villarreal. They have won just one of their last five and have slipped from the top of the table to fifth place. At home their record is still very good, with the 1-2 reverse to Celta de Vigo back in October, the only blemish on their report.

Last time out, they were unsurprisingly beaten by three goals to nil at the Camp Nou, as Neymar once again produced a masterclass. While that defeat was expected, it was the 1-0 defeat in Levante at the beginning of October that briefly knocked the teams confidence. Before the loss to Barca, the Yellow Submarine recorded an impressive home win against Sevilla and they will now be looking to add the name of SD Eibar to their list of home scalps for the season.

Eibar the road specialists

Villarreal may be good at home but Eibar are pretty handy on the road. Their only defeat away from the Ipurua Municipal Stadium this season came at the hands of European Champions Barcelona at the Camp Nou back in October. Despite losing that game, they managed to restrict the Catalan giants to a two-goal winning margin and also got on the score sheet themselves.

Los Armeros come into this game on the back of consecutive home wins against Rayo Vallecano and Getafe.

Team news

Villarreal will once again have to make do without the injured trio Adrian, Leo Baptistao and Sergio Asenjo.

Meanwhile, winger Ander Capa is suspended for the Basque team.
