Prince Of Wales`s Stakes - Royal Ascot 2017

June 21, 2016 16:20pm - Ascot, Berkshire

Royal Ascot 2017

Category: Group 1, Class 1

Distance: 1m 1f 212y

Going: Good to firm

Runners: 8

Winner: £ 425,325.00

With five Group 1 wins already recorded, including the Secretariat, the King George (Ascot), Hong Kong Vase, Breeders` Cup Turf and the Coronation Cup (Epsom) last time out, Highland Reel looks like the one to beat here. He perhaps prefers a slightly longer trip but the track suits him and he can handle the pace.

Jack Hobbs had his best race yet winning the Sheema Classic at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night last time out, beating Highland Reel in the process. It should be noted that the course suited him more than his rival on that occasion but that should not take anything away from that performance. With the ground a little firmer than he prefers, there is a feeling that he could be the one following home this time round. However, he should not be ruled out completely.

Beyond those two, Decorated Knight looks like good value and the course and distance should suit him perfectly. He also likes firm ground so that`s another box ticked here. He bagged his second Group 1 win at the Curragh last time, even though the softer ground was against him on that occasion. However, this race represents a step up so he will need to improve further. Nonetheless, a solid each-way candidate.
