France vs Peru - World Cup 2018 Preview and Odds

June 21, 2018 16:00pm - Ekaterinburg Arena

World Cup Russia 2018 - Group C

France will look for a confidence-boosting performance when they take on Peru in their second match in Group C on Tuesday afternoon.

The French failed to convince in their opening match against Australia despite taking all three points. It was a disjointed, tactically inept display that left more questions than answers for Didier Deschamps. In the end, the two side were separated by a deflected own goal.

But they got the job done and must now build upon that performance against another team they will be expected to beat with ease. It is not unusual for top teams to start slowly at World Cup finals, and historically France have been no exception.

Their main problem was breaking down Australia`s deep defensive line but that task should be easier against Peru, who need to push for all three points. Deschamps may look to bring in Benjamin Mendy and Djibril Sidibé to give them more attacking options from the wings.

Meanwhile, Peru will hope to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Denmark last week. It was their first World Cup game since 1982 and they were unlucky not to have come away with a least a draw.

Forward Paolo Guerrero started on the bench as his team wasted many chances including a penalty kick, which was skewered over the bar by Christian Cueva.

The South Americans had 17 shots on goal and the defeat hot them hard, but they will look to take advantage of French side low on confidence. Thousands of Peruvian fans are expected to make the long trip to Yekaterinburg to stir up a carnival atmosphere.

Betting odds and tips

It is 40 years since Peru beat a European side in a competitive match. However, they did beat 1-0 France in their only previous encounter, a friendly back in 1982.

It will not be an easy afternoon for the French defence and with captain Paolo Guerrero expected to return, Peru could at least bag their first goal of the tournament.

You can back France to win and Both Teams to Score at 10/3.
