West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur- Premier League Preview and Odds

November 23, 2019 12:30pm - London Stadium (London)

Premier League

Jose Mourinho will take charge of Tottenham Hotspur for the first time on Saturday when his team makes the short trip across London to face West Ham United. The Portuguese coach was swiftly installed earlier this week following the shock dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino and now takes charge of his third Premier League club.

Spurs` appearance in the Champions League final was only six months away but their domestic decline began back in February with the defeat at Burnley. Since then, they have won six, drawn seven and lost 11 of the 24 Premier League matches they have played. Over the course of a season, that would equate to just over 36 points and put them in danger of relegation.

Mourinho has only made it to a fourth season at a club on one occasion (his first spell at Chelsea) so Spurs should not expect a long-term relationship to develop. Instead, they will be hoping for an instant impact and a trophy or two during the next couple of seasons. The Special One has not failed to deliver a trophy at any club he has managed since arriving at Porto in 2002.

The North Londoners are winless in five and are currently sat 14th in the table although they are just three points adrift of fifth-ranked Sheffield United. More alarmingly, they are 20 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who beat them in the Champions League final back in June, and 11 points adrift of a place in the top four.

Meanwhile, hosts West Ham United are facing a crisis of their own having lost four of their last five Premier League matches having lost just one of their previous 11. The Hammers are a point below Spurs in the table but still have a five-point cushion over the teams in the bottom three. A win against their London rivals would give under-pressure boss Manuel Pellegrini and his men a massive boost and could help revive their season. In their last meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in April, the Irons earned all three points thanks to a single goal from Michail Antonio.

Betting odds and tips

The Spurs players seemed to have given up under their old boss so a reaction should be expected on Saturday as they look to gain favour under Mourinho. Spurs have won on their last two visits to the London Stadium and will look to take advantage of West Ham`s shaky backline.

You can back Spurs to win at 4/6.
